Expired trailer tag lands Ocala man with multiple license suspensions behind bars

Brandon Douglass Buckholz

An Ocala man was arrested Wednesday after being stopped for pulling a trailer with an expired license tag.

The Ocala Police officer stopped 36-year-old Brandon Douglass Buckholz in the 200 block of N Pine Avenue. He told the officer that he knew the tag was expired and he didn’t have his driver’s license with him, an Ocala Police report states.

A check on Buckholz’s license showed multiple suspensions, with the latest being Aug. 28, 2018 for failing to pay a traffic fine. There were four other previous suspensions as well: Aug. 16, 2017; Feb. 25, 2016; Sept. 12, 2006; and Sept. 18, 2005.

The officer then asked Buckholz about the traffic fine and he said it was for his license tag. He said he couldn’t afford to pay the citation at the time “but he knew he was supposed to pay and remembered when he received the ticket,” the report says, adding that Buckholz had his wife take possession of his vehicle.

Buckholz was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with driving with license suspended or revoked (fifth offense). He was released early Thursday morning on $2,000 bond.
