Homeless man accused of stomping on pregnant woman’s stomach

Joshua Vrabel

A homeless man was arrested Monday after allegedly leaving a visible shoeprint on the belly of a pregnant woman during a domestic dispute in Belleview.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy and a Belleview Police officer teamed up to investigate the incident, which happened at a known homeless camp on SE 47th Avenue. The victim, who is pregnant, told the officer that Joshua Vrabel, 34, stomped on her face, arms and stomach, and that he strangled her with his hands, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The officer observed and took photos of the injuries, which he provided to the deputy. The photos showed red marks with black dirt on the victim’s arms, shoulders, face and neck. The victim’s stomach had a red mark with black dirt in the form of a shoe print. She was taken to Advent Health of Ocala for treatment, the report said.

Vrabel, who was located and detained in the area behind Publix, told the deputy he and the victim live together in the homeless camp. He said there was an argument between the two but nothing physical happened, according to the report.

Vrabel was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and domestic battery by strangulation. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $2,000 bond. He’ll answer to the charges in Marion County Court on June 11.
