71-year-old Ocala man jailed with no bond after nasty battle with lady friend

Jeffery Lynn Vaughn

A 71-year-old Ocala man ended up in jail Tuesday after a violent altercation with a lady friend who was upset about him “staying out all night.”

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence in the 6800 block of NW 47th Avenue and when they arrived, a woman told them that she had been in a physical altercation with Jeffery Lynn Vaughn.

The woman said he “became irate,” grabbed her by the neck and forced her onto the ground outside the home’s garage. And she claimed he held a yellow DeWalt drill over his head, told her was going to hit her with it and then allegedly added, “I will kill you before I leave my own house,” the report says.

The woman said she was in fear that Vaughn was “going to beat her,” so she begged him to let her go. She said he then took her phone out of her hand and when she was able to get away, she went to a neighbor’s house and called 911.

The woman said Vaughn had left the home on foot and was heading east. He was located a short time later hiding in bushes by a sheriff’s K-9 unit and was taken into custody.
Vaughn denied touching the woman or attempting to hit her with the drill. He was then transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, domestic battery and a probation violation on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held with no bond and is due in court on Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.

Vaughn, who has been arrested 15 times since October 1991 on a litany of charges, was convicted July 1 of a prior aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. He had been arrested May 22 on the charge, as well as a felony warrant for driving while license suspended (third or subsequent offense).
