A 20-year-old Orlando woman was killed early Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle in Marion County.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:45 a.m. when 48-year-old Mikel Strickland, of Summerfield, was traveling east in the outside lane of County Road 484 just west of SE 25th Avenue. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Madison Wiley was wearing dark clothing during the nighttime hours and there was little ambient light in the area when she darted into the path of Mikel’s 2005 Nissan Murano.
Strickland’s SUV struck Wiley and threw her onto the north grass shoulder of the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP report says.
Charges are pending in the crash, which remains under investigation. Strickland was wearing his seat belt and wasn’t injured. It also hasn’t been determined if alcohol played a factor in the incident.
