Dunnellon man claiming woman ‘deserved to be touched’ jailed on battery charge

Ronald Arthur Schor

A Dunnellon man who goes by the nickname “Hot Rod” was jailed Monday night after a woman claimed he struck her repeatedly all over her body.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 5200 block of SW 176th Avenue and when they arrived, the woman claimed 73-year-old Ronald Arthur Schor also had attempted to choke her, though she then “quietly laughed” and didn’t elaborate.

The woman claimed to have bruises on her arms from the incident but a sheriff’s deputy who had been at the residence on an earlier call for a verbal altercation said the bruises were already there. When asked why she didn’t claim any kind of battery during that earlier incident, she said it “got worse when they left.” The woman also said all she wanted was her phone back so she could leave, the report says.

The deputies then made contact with Schor, who invited them inside the home. When asked about the woman’s phone, he demanded to receive items back from her that he claimed were his. The woman then showed deputies where those belongings were and he returned her phone, the report says.

The woman showed deputies a video on her phone of the alleged battery. Deputies reported seeing Schor come into the woman’s room and demand his money back. He also said, “Don’t make me do this to you” as he made movements like putting his hands on her and deputies could hear contact being made, the report says, adding that physical contact wasn’t seen in the video because of the way the phone was angled.

Deputies told Schor he was being placed under arrest. He acted like he didn’t understand so they explained the elements of battery to him. He then spontaneously uttered, “She deserved to be touched,” according to the report.

A criminal background check showed that Schor was convicted on two counts of battery in March 2018. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with battery (second or subsequent offense). He was being held on $1,000 bond and is due in court April 7 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
