Dunnellon woman jailed after nasty spat over stimulus check

Yoankidis Veiglie

A Dunnellon woman is accused of hitting a man with a lamp and a beer bottle during a fight over a stimulus check that had arrived that day in the mail.

Yoankidis Veiglie, 42, of SW 181st Court, was charged recently with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy met with the victim in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie, 10051 S. Hwy. 41. Through an interpreter, the victim said he and Veiglie were arguing over the stimulus check, which had just arrived in the mail. He said Veiglie struck him with a lamp inside the residence and later hit him in the face with a beer bottle, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy observed swelling and redness on the victim’s right eye consistent with his statement. The victim said after being struck with the beer bottle, he got in his vehicle and headed towards the store to get away from Veiglie. The victim said Veiglie is taking medication for bipolar disorder and had also been drinking, the report said.

Veiglie also showed up at the store parking lot with her three juvenile daughters in the vehicle. She said she and the victim had argued over the stimulus check, but the altercation was verbal only and occurred outside. Veiglie said she observed her purse and cell phone were missing and saw the victim running to his vehicle, according to the report.

A search of the residence turned up a beer bottle in the front yard and a broken lamp, both consistent with the victim’s account, the report said.

Veiglie, who continued to say she didn’t touch the victim and that he caused his own injuries, was taken to the Marion County Jail. She is being held on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 9.
