Silver Springs man jailed on domestic battery charge

Todd Adam Barkyoumb

A 29-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested for the third time in a little less than a year, this time after he allegedly battered a woman because she was leaving with a friend.

Todd Adam Barkyoumb Jr., of East Silver Springs Boulevard, was charged with simple domestic battery. He was previously arrested in May on a retail theft charge, and in August 2019 for driving away without paying for gas, according to Marion County Jail records.

The woman who reported the incident Sunday told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she had been involved in a physical altercation with Barkyoumb but she didn’t want to pursue charges. She did, however, want to report an incident that happened between him and the victim two days earlier, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim told the deputy Barkyoumb has an extensive history of violence. She said he battered her two days earlier while she was in bed. The victim said Barkyoumb was upset because she was leaving with a friend. She said at that time, he grabbed her by the neck and told her she was never going to leave him, the report said.

The victim reported another incident that took place on Aug. 7. She showed a photo on a cell phone that showed two large bruises on her right shoulder blade. The victim said she did not report the incident, according to the report.

The woman who originally called law enforcement said she received a text message from the victim on Aug. 7 showing the bruises on her shoulder blade. She said she told the victim to report the incident, but she refused, the report said.

While being interviewed by the deputy, Barkyoumb asked, “are you talking about the bruises on her arm?” He denied having any physical contact with the victim and said she put makeup on her shoulder blades to make it look like bruises, according to the report.

Barkyoumb said he normally gets upset and cries when the victim leaves with her friends, but he never becomes aggressive towards her. The deputy observed a small bruise on the left side of the victim’s neck consistent with her statement about Barkyoumb grabbing her, the report said.

Barkyoumb was still being held in the Marion County Jail on Tuesday morning on $5,000 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 23.
