Belleview man tased twice during struggle with officers

Ryan David Mitchell

A Belleview man was tased twice after he picked a fight with officers early Sunday.

Ryan David Mitchell, 36, of 6018 S.E. 126th Lane, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence after the incident, which happened outside his residence.

At around 2:30 a.m., a Belleview Police officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a black four-door Toyota that didn’t have its headlights on. The vehicle ignored the emergency lights, sped away and turned westbound onto 126th Lane, according to the police report.

A records check sowed the vehicle’s registered owner lived on SE 126th Street, but the vehicle wasn’t there when officers arrived. Another officer reported seeing it outside 6018 SE 126th Lane. While heading east on SE 126 the lane, an officer saw a black Toyota at 5995 SE 126th Lane with three people standing around it, the report said.

The officer stopped at the location and was approached by Mitchell, who was very argumentative. Several other officers arrived and Mitchell continued to be aggressive. He said the officers had no right to be on the property, according to the report.

Two officers drew their tasers in an effort to de-escalate the situation. Mitchell tried to pull away to avoid being handcuffed and, in the process, struck an officer on the left cheek. The officers deployed their tasers and brought Mitchell under control, the report said.

Mitchell was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Sunday night on $10,000 bond. No court information was available.
