Marion County Planning and Zoning Commission needs five resident volunteers for vacancies

Marion County is looking to fill five vacancies on its Planning and Zoning Commission whose terms expire at the end of this quarter.

Approval of advertising the vacancies will come before the Marion County Board of County Commissioners during its regular meeting on Tuesday morning.

There are currently five terms on the Marion County Planning and Zoning Commission that will expire at the end of September, according to county records. Four of the positions are for full members, and one is for an alternate member.

All positions will run for a full, four-year term. All incumbents are eligible for reappointment should they wish to apply.

Advisory boards are a key function of government. They are comprised of residents from all around the county who volunteer their time and expertise to make recommendations to the Marion County Board of County Commissioners on topics that are relevant to all residents.

The Marion County Planning and Zoning Commission reviews existing and future development plans in the county and makes recommendations to the board of county commissioners.

Last week, the commission recommended denial of requested changes to zoning and planned future land use that would have paved the way for a new Family Dollar location in Salt Springs.

For more information on how to apply to this or other advisory boards through the county, visit the Marion County Board of County Commissioners Advisory Board webpage.
