Anthony woman arrested at local gas station after allegedly stealing vehicle out of Sarasota County

A 40-year-old Anthony woman who allegedly stole a Kia Soul was arrested after a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the vehicle at a local gas station.

On Sunday at around 2:30 p.m., the MCSO deputy responded to the Diamond Oil gas station located at 1952 NE 35th Street in Ocala in reference to a stolen vehicle in the area.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the deputy observed a gray Kia Soul that matched the stolen vehicle’s description. The vehicle’s driver, later identified as Angela Dee Blackhurst, parked in front of a gas pump and exited the vehicle.

The deputy quickly detained Blackhurst in handcuffs. According to the MCSO report, the vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen out of Sarasota County, and Blackhurst was listed as the suspect in that case.

Blackhurst agreed to speak with the deputy and claimed that she had a rental agreement with the victim. She repeatedly told the deputy that she did not steal the vehicle.

Blackhurst was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. The MCSO report indicated that she appeared to be under the influence, and she was transported to AdventHealth Ocala for medical evaluation.

While Blackhurst was changing into her hospital gown, a nurse observed a clear plastic bag fall out of Blackhurst’s pants. The bag was filled with a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Blackhurst informed the deputy that she also had a clear glass pipe inside of her bra.

Upon release from the hospital, Blackhurst was transported back to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $7,000 bond. She is facing felony charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance along with a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
