Reddick Public Library to host free diabetes education classes

A free weekly series of classes on diabetes education and prevention will begin later this month at the Reddick Public Library.

The Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion), in partnership with the Marion County Hospital District, is offering the free classes at the public library, which is located at 15150 NW Gainesville Road in Reddick.

DOH-Marion’s Diabetes Empowerment and Education Program (DEEP) runs for six weeks, beginning on Tuesday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to noon. The classes will meet at that same time and location each following Tuesday through October 18.

DEEP is a series of classes that aims to help participants who have diabetes or are considered pre-diabetic to better understand their condition and self-care options.

The classes will cover such topics as understanding how diabetes affects the human body and how to monitor it. DEEP will also include instruction on the importance of meal planning, physical activity, and a balanced diet, as well as teaching participants how to identify and prevent diabetic complications.

The classes are free to attend, but space is limited.
