AAA activates ‘Tow to Go’ program for 4th of July holiday

AAA has activated its free transportation service for members and non-members over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in an effort to prevent injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers.

The “Tow to Go” program is available until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, and it will provide a free ride and vehicle tow to impaired drivers that do not have an alternative way to get home. Over the past two decades, the program has kept over 25,000 impaired drivers off the road, according to AAA.

“Please drink responsibly and DO NOT drink and drive!” stated the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post.

The free confidential ride is available to members of AAA as well as non-members, and a tow truck will take the vehicle and driver home or to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. In some instances, AAA may need to find other arrangements to help get an impaired individual to their home.

Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance, and the “Tow to Go” program might not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions. The program operates on most major holidays.

To learn more about this service, visit the AAA “Tow to Go” website or call 1-855-286-9246.
