Purple Heart and Agent Orange recognition ceremony this weekend

A ceremony honoring Purple Heart recipients and Agent Orange warriors will be held this weekend in Ocala.

Annually, August 7 is recognized as National Purple Heart Day, and Agent Orange Awareness Day is held on August 10. In recognition of both days, the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park (2601 E Fort King Street in Ocala) is hosting a joint ceremony on Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Friends of Marion County Veterans Park Foundation is inviting the public and the entire veteran community to this ceremony to honor and remember all who have been awarded the Purple Heart and those who have been affected by Agent Orange.

The Marion County Memorial Honor Guard will be on deck to render proper honors during the ceremony, and a framed certificate will be presented to all Purple Heart recipients and Agent Orange warriors in attendance in recognition of their selfless sacrifice.

Free parking will be available in the Marion County Public Library lot located at 2720 E Silver Springs Boulevard.
