Marion firefighters rescue raccoon stuck in jar

Marion County firefighters came to the rescue of a raccoon on Tuesday afternoon after its head became stuck in a jar.

At around 2:45 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to SRM Concrete (10550 SE 58th Avenue in Belleview) after receiving reports that a raccoon was stuck in a nearby tree with a jar on its head, according to MCFR.

Upon arrival, firefighters from MCFR’s Tower 2 unit were able to reach the raccoon, and the animal was extricated from the jar.

After the successful rescue, the raccoon was placed in a carrier and brought to Marion County Animal Control.

“We are pleased to say that (the raccoon) didn’t suffer any major injuries,” stated Marion County Fire Rescue on its Facebook page.
