Traveling 9/11 Memorial Wall to be escorted through Ocala/Marion County on Saturday

The Traveling 9/11 Memorial Wall will be accompanied by a local motorcycle escort ride through Ocala and Marion County on Saturday, September 9.

Hundreds of motorcycles will escort the Traveling Memorial Wall through the area. The wall memorializes the names of all the civilians, police, and military personnel who died on September 11, 2001.

On Saturday morning, bikes will meet at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion (west side) located at 2232 NE Jacksonville Road in Ocala. Registration for the event will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., and kick stands will go up shortly after 9 a.m., according to an event announcement.

The ride will proceed on a scenic route around Ocala to the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park, arriving between 9:40 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. The 9/11 Traveling Wall will then be dismounted from the escort and erected in the park for public viewing.

At 10:30 a.m., a solemn ceremony will take place under the pavilion at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park, and appropriate honors will be rendered by the Marion County Fire Rescue Honor Guard.

The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, and parking will be available at the Marion County Public Library Headquarters parking lot located at 2720 E Silver Springs Boulevard. Members of the public who are attending the ceremony should arrive at the library’s parking lot by no later than 9:15 to 9:30 a.m.

The Ocala Marion County Veteran’s Park is located at 2601 E Fort King Street in Ocala.
