Ocala library to host ‘Mobile Learning Adventure’ for young children

The Marion County Public Library headquarters in Ocala is inviting local children ages 5 and under, along with their caregivers, to attend a “Mobile Learning Adventure” event on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18.

During this traveling exhibit at the Marion County Public Library headquarters (2720 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala), parents and caregivers will get to learn about the importance of early childhood education while engaging in fun activities with their children.

Families attending the Mobile Learning Adventure will receive a passport booklet that guides them on a journey to four activity stations in the library. Those stations will include:

  • Making Choices Disc Run – This activity will help parents and caregivers teach their children about “wants” vs. “needs.”
  • When I Grow Up Photo Station – Children will get to dress up as the profession of their choice, and their images will be superimposed on a career-related background. The career-themed costumes will include astronaut, athlete, ballerina, chef, doctor, firefighter, teacher, scientist, and military (Navy, Army, and Air Force).
  • Craft Area – This activity will consist of a staffed table where children will receive a stencil with various shapes and an activity sheet prompting them to draw items using the shapes provided.
  • Story Telling Tree – This activity will encourage dialogue between parents and their children as each child will answer the following prompt by writing on a leaf and attaching it to the tree: “When I grow up, I want to be ____ because ____.”

Upon the completion of each activity, children will receive an achievement badge sticker to add to each corresponding page of their passport. In addition, parents will be able to take home activity books and learning kits that demonstrate how to turn everyday moments into learning opportunities.

The Mobile Learning Adventure will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 17, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 18.

The event is part of PNC Bank’s “Grow Up Great” program. Launched in 2004, the goal of this $500 million, multi-year bilingual initiative is to prepare children for success in school and life, before they even enter kindergarten.
