Ocala Symphony Orchestra announces 2024 lineup

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra has announced its lineup of concerts and events that will be held at the Reilly Arts Center in the new year.

Ranging from a young artist competition to a silent film orchestra performance featuring the 1923 “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” OSO will look to deliver a variety of musical experiences during these upcoming events:

The 33rd Annual Young Artist Competition: Honors Recital (3 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2024).

This event will feature the finalists from the 33rd Annual Young Artist Competition. These young musicians from the Junior and Senior divisions will take the stage to perform their concerto in front of a live audience for a chance to perform as a soloist with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra in March.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra Silent Film Orchestra: “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024).

The orchestra will present the 1923 classic, and it will be accompanied by an original score composed by Maestro Matthew Wardell and Brad DeLoatche.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: Hungarian Pictures (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024).

Led by principal guest conductor Raymond Chobaz, this concert will feature iconic works by Hungarian and Romanian composers including Miklós Rózsa, Liszt, and Zoltán Kodály.

Ocala Symphony’s 2024 Fundraising Gala (6 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024).

This event will be held to raise funding for arts and music education at the Reilly Arts Center.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: Rhythmic Tides (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024).

The orchestra’s full string section will perform Stella Sung’s KOHOLA: Spirit of the Ocean, Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings, and Albinoni’s Adagio for Strings and Organ, among other pieces.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: From Hogwarts to a Galaxy, Far, Far, Away! (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024).

The orchestra will perform scores from two of the most beloved movie franchises of all time: Harry Potter and Star Wars. During the concert, images from these films will be brought to life on the screen above.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: Bold Brahms (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2024).

Led by guest conductor Edward Leonard, this concert will feature Brahm’s Symphony No. 4. In addition, the two winners of the 33rd Annual Young Artist Competition will showcase their individual talents during the show.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: Melodious Accord (3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024).

This concert of choral Americana will feature arrangements of shaped-note tunes by Alice Parker, original works by Stephen Paulus, Randall Thompson, and spirituals.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: To the End of the Earth (7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28).

Led by Maestro Matthew Wardell, this season finale concert will include performances of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, the world premiere of Jenni Brandon’s Fin de la Tierra, and three scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony.

All of the above events will take place at the Reilly Arts Center, which is located at 500 NE 9th Street in Ocala, unless otherwise indicated.

Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting the Reilly Arts Center box office at 352-351-1606. Additionally, tickets can be purchased in-person at the box office on Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
