East Marion Elementary School placed on brief lockdown

School officials and local law enforcement officers briefly placed East Marion Elementary School on lockdown Thursday morning due to reports of a threat being made against the school.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, an “increased police presence” responded to East Marion Elementary School (14550 NE 14th Street Road in Ocala) in the morning hours in reference to the unspecified threat.

MCSO deputies proceeded to check the campus to ensure that there were no threats to the students and staff.

At 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, MCSO stated in a social media post that deputies have cleared the school and surrounding property.

“The threat was unsubstantiated and the school lockdown has been lifted,” added the sheriff’s office.
