Mexican restaurant replacing Cuban spot in downtown Ocala

A family who operated a Cuban restaurant along a major thoroughfare in Ocala for over three years has sold the business to new owners, who are converting the business into a Mexican restaurant.

My Quate is in the process of renovating 119 S Pine Avenue, which was formerly occupied by Havana Cuban Cuisine 352.

Signs adorning the front of the restaurant say the business is “under new ownership” and will “open soon.”

Havana 352, which was owned by the Matos family, announced on February 1 that the family had sold the business “for personal reasons.”

“Today the Matos family, owners of the previously known Havana 352, wish to inform you that for personal reasons, we have sold and will no longer operate the business at this time,” reads a statement posted to the former restaurant’s social media.

Now, the business will change hands after three-and-a-half years.

No additional details have been made available about My Quate. State corporate records show that the business is owned by Javier Ordóñez.

My Quate will join multiple other Mexican restaurants that have opened in downtown Ocala over the past several years, including Cantina Tex Mex Tequila Bar and Sayulita Taqueria.

In nearby Churchill Square, La Catrina Cocina Mexicana is in the midst of renovating a new restaurant.

Additional Mexican restaurants that have opened in the past five years include El Mezcal, La Fiesta, Casita Luna, Antojitos 352, and Brisas Del Mar, among others.
