The Ocala Symphony Orchestra’s full string section will be at the Reilly Arts Center this weekend for two performances of Rhythmic Tides.
During both concerts, which start at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, Music Director and Conductor Matthew Wardell will lead the orchestra as they perform the following pieces:
- Tomaso Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor for Strings and Organ.
- Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings.
- Stella Sung’s KOHOLA: Spirit of the Ocean.
- Thomas Tallis’ Fantasia on a Theme.
In a social media post, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra stated that attendees will “feel the power and beauty of the (orchestra’s) full string section, a captivating performance by soloist Danielle Moreau on the marimba, underwater video work by Annie Crawley, and more.”
Both concerts will be held at the Reilly Arts Center (500 NE 9th Street in Ocala). Tickets are available online, ranging from $15 to $40 for adults. Student tickets are also available for $10.
Over the next several months, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra will look to deliver a variety of musical experiences with the following events:
The orchestra will perform scores from two of the most beloved movie franchises of all time: Harry Potter and Star Wars. During the concert, images from these films will be brought to life on the screen above.
Led by guest conductor Edward Leonard, this concert will feature Brahm’s Symphony No. 4. In addition, the two winners of the 33rd Annual Young Artist Competition will showcase their individual talents during the show.
The Ocala Symphony Orchestra: Melodious Accord (3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024).
This concert of choral Americana will feature arrangements of shaped-note tunes by Alice Parker, original works by Stephen Paulus, Randall Thompson, and spirituals.
Led by Maestro Matthew Wardell, this season finale concert will include performances of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, the world premiere of Jenni Brandon’s Fin de la Tierra, and three scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony.
All of the above events will take place at the Reilly Arts Center (500 NE 9th Street in Ocala) unless otherwise indicated.
