A laundromat in east Ocala with state-of-the-art touch-screen machines, e-payment options, and renovated amenities is flourishing under new ownership.
Excel Laundry is located at 2507 NE 3rd Street, taking over a space formerly occupied by 3rd Street Laundry.
Owned and operated by Jim and Linda Fogarty, who are new residents of Ocala, Excel Laundry features a bevy of upgrades over its predecessor.
The Fogartys say they purchased the business in 2022 with the hope of creating a quality, modern facility to serve Ocala.
The couple has done exactly that.
Mr. Fogarty, who has worked in the commercial laundry business for more than 25 years, brought decades of experience in remodeling existing laundromats and creating new ones to the table.
After the couple got the keys to the business, they went in and completely renovated and remodeled the facility.
Among the upgrades and changes were the addition of new, high-efficiency, front-load washers and dryers.
All of the new machines offer multi-lingual, touch screen control, and standard and extended cycles.
All of the washers are high speed spin washers, which dries the clothes more efficiently and quickly.
All of the dryers are reversing dryers, which means that they change direction during the cycle. That results in loads that dry faster, more evenly, and that don’t get tangled up.
According to the couple, Excel Laundry is the only laundromat in Marion County with reversing dryers.
All of the washers and dryers can be operated by either coins, credit/debit cards, or app pay. There are two change machines on site for customer use.
Unlike some laundromats in the area, customers are not required to purchase a pre-paid card to operate the laundry equipment. The Fogartys say they didn’t want their customers to walk out of the store with their hard-earned money left on a card that they can’t use.
Along with the new machines, the location boasts new flooring, a new restroom, new lighting, and a new automatic front door for ease of entry and exit. With the changes, the business became an ADA accessible facility.
Excel Laundry has a worker on site and offers a wash and fold laundry service that allows customers to drop off their laundry or bulk items to have them washed, dried and folded.
Once each order is completed, a modern computer system sends a text message that the order is done and ready for pick up.
Excel Laundry is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
