Major Ralph J. Cumbie, 78, passed away on March 3, 2024. Major Cumbie had an honorable and distinguished career in the US Air Force as a Master Air Traffic Controller and held numerous rankings in Air Traffic Control during tours in Europe, Italy, and Germany. He was awarded a BS degree from Florida State University and a Master’s degree from Golden State University in San Francisco, California. Major Cumbie retired from the US Air Force in 1989, having served his country honorably for over 20 years. Prior to enlisting in the USAF, Major Cumbie was employed with the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission as the Nature and Conservation Instructor and Assistant Director of the Ocala National Forest Youth Conservation Camp, one of his most rewarding jobs.

Major Cumbie was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Patricia L. Cumbie. After her death, Major Cumbie returned to his home state of Florida. Major Cumbie is survived by his only daughter, Stacie Ann Colson; his only brother, Dr. Peter M. Cumbie (Nancy); one adopted son, Steven Wayne Cumbie (Michelle), and granddaughter, Hailey Cumbie.

An inurnment committal service, with full military honors, was held at Glenhaven Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial Gardens where Major Cumbie was laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Air Force Association, American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
