A 40-year-old Fort McCoy man is facing an aggravated battery charge after he allegedly attacked one of his female neighbors with a baseball bat during an argument over her dogs.
On Wednesday, April 10, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a residence in Fort McCoy in reference to a “suspicious incident.” Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the female victim who advised that her neighbor, Bradley Scott Brannaman, had attacked her, according to the arrest report.
The victim told the deputy that she was in her yard when Brannaman approached her. He was allegedly wielding a silver aluminum baseball bat, and he began “yelling at her over her dogs barking,” according to the report.
When Brannaman was close to the victim, he allegedly struck her in the head with the baseball bat. A male witness then tackled Brannaman to the ground to “get him to stop hitting (the victim),” according to the report.
The deputy noted in the report that the victim had a deep laceration on the top of her head that would require staples or stitches. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
The report stated that two witnesses – the man who tackled Brannaman and the victim’s roommate – both corroborated the victim’s statement.
The deputy made contact with Brannaman. He claimed that he “blacked out” and did not remember anything after he began arguing with the victim. He stated that the next thing he remembered was being on the ground with the male witness holding him down, according to the report.
The deputy noted that the aluminum bat belonging to Brannaman was recovered in a neighbor’s yard.
Brannaman was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. He was later released after posting a $15,000 bond, and he is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, according to jail records.
