Massage parlors in Dunnellon and in Ocala were reprimanded by the state for allegedly having excessive coverings or tints on the windows of their establishments.

The Florida Board of Massage Therapy issued final orders against Yin Yang Hands Massage and 415LL following routine inspections by the Department of Health that revealed violations of state statutes governing massage establishments.

In one of the cases, Cuiping Romero, the licensed owner and designated establishment manager of Yin Yang Magic Hands Massage, received a Letter of Concern following a July 12, 2024, inspection.

During that routine check at the establishment, which is located at 20120 SW 93rd Lane Road in Dunnellon, a department inspector discovered that curtains covered more than 50 percent of the windows and the door leading into the establishment’s reception area.

Under Florida law, no more than 50 percent of an outside window may be obstructed by signage, blinds, or curtains, so that the public is able to see the reception area. Romero filed an election of rights, stating no material facts were in dispute, leading to the Board’s final disciplinary action.

In a separate case, 415LL Inc., which is located at 415 NE 25th Avenue in Ocala, was formally reprimanded and ordered to pay an administrative fine of $500.

An inspection conducted on August 28, 2024, revealed that the front door and windows did not meet the state’s 35 percent light penetration requirement.

Measurements taken by the inspector showed that there was only 19.1 percent light penetration, and more than 50 percent of the outside windows were obstructed by a combination of blinds, curtains, and dark reflective tint.

Beyond the window violations, the inspector found the business’s patient records were incomplete, missing the full legal name, home address, and telephone number of clients, as well as the name of the therapist providing the service and the date and time of the treatment.

State records indicate the Ocala establishment also failed to confirm the identification of one or more patients before providing treatment.

The administrative fine must be paid in full within one year of the May 1 filing date of the final order.

The reprimands come amidst a crack down on massage establishments across Marion County.

Over the past two years, the state has reprimanded or revoked the license of massage locations in Summerfield, and several other locations across the county.
