Marion County deputy teams with off-duty nurse to save man’s life at traffic intersection

A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy and an off-duty nurse are being credited with saving a man’s life Tuesday.

K-9 Dep. Alan Lee and Amy Somwaru, an off-duty registered nurse at Munroe Regional Medical Center, provided treatment to a 42-year-old man who experienced a medical emergency in his car at the intersection of West Hwy. 40 and NW 27th Avenue on Tuesday evening.

According to a sheriff’s office report, Lee was driving in his patrol vehicle when he saw Somwaru giving CPR to the man. He stopped to help and the two worked together to continue providing life-saving treatment to the man until paramedics from Marion County

Fire Rescue and Ocala Fire Rescue arrived a short time later.
After receiving treatment from paramedics, the man regained a pulse. He was transported to an area hospital and was discharged Thursday morning after making a full recovery.
