A Silver Springs man found himself behind bars recently after a Marion County sheriff’s sergeant saw his vehicle swerve and narrowly miss a telephone pole.
The sergeant conducted a traffic stop in the 5400 block of N.E. 35th Street and made contact with 21-year-old Isaias Escalante. A deputy responded to assist with the stop and reported that Escalante was showing signs of impairment, a sheriff’s office report states.
After Escalante struggled through field sobriety exercises, he was placed under arrest. The deputy located cocaine in his pocket and he was then transported to the Marion County Jail, the report says.
Escalante was charged with driving under the influence and possession of cocaine. He was released on $3,000 bond and is due in court Feb. 16 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
