A homeless man was jailed recently after refusing to pay for two breakfast sandwiches and three fountain drinks during multiple visits to a busy Ocala minimart.

Employees at the RaceTrac gas station, located at 1525 S.W. Hwy. 484 in Ocala, said they told 38-year-old Raymond Earl Leet during his first visit to the store that he needed to pay for the items but he replied “no” and walked out. They said he returned two more times and stole a fountain drink each time for a total loss of $6.94, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.

A short time later, deputies located Leet at the off-ramp from Interstate 75 onto S.W. County Road 484, where he was drinking out of a RaceTrac cup. When asked where he got the cup, he said it came from a gas station and gestured toward the RaceTrac, the report says.

Deputies detained Leet and a witness confirmed he was the man who allegedly stole the items. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with three counts of larceny/petit theft. He was being held on $3,000 bond and is due in court May 14 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
