New Wawa at S.R. 200, SW 100th St makes series of adjustments in response to county comments

The development team behind a new Wawa coming to the intersection of S.R. 200 and SW 100th Street responded to a series of notes from the county recently. 

Bohler Engineering, which represents the gas station chain, brought its response to the Marion County Development Review Committee this month after receiving a series of comments from the county during a multi-layered review.

The county’s review included comments across a variety of topics, including traffic, storm water, development, current land use, and utilities, to name a few. 

According to the response letter, the developer is currently working on resolving multiple issues on which the county commented. The developer is currently working on addressing drainage issues, conducting a traffic study, and revising landscaping drawings in order to address many of the county’s comments. 

The land, which currently sits vacant and is across S.R. 200 from Bank OZK, is currently zoned as conditional B-2, community business. 

In recent weeks, multiple residents have expressed their opinions about the types of new commercial development that have taken place all across the city, and particularly in southwest Ocala.

Wawa has opened more gas stations in Marion County than any other company in the past three years, boasting multiple locations across the cities of Ocala and Belleview. 

Earlier this year Connor Tuck, whose father once owned dozens of gas stations across Marion County, expressed his concern that the city did not need additional gas stations and convenience stores.

“If citizens were banging down the doors saying ‘I can’t get gas,’ then yes, I think we could use a couple more gas stations. We are littered with gas stations at just about every major corner,” said Tuck during the May 4 meeting of the Ocala City Council. 

The organization will continue to work with the county to finalize its site plan before beginning construction.
