Ocala woman arrested at hotel in The Villages in family feud over mother-in-law’s funeral

Dena Farrell

An Ocala woman was arrested at a hotel in The Villages after a family feud with her husband over his mother’s funeral.

Lady Lake police were called early Wednesday morning to Room 111 at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Avenida Central where 53-year-old Dena Farrell had been arguing with her husband over his mother’s funeral which had been set for the following morning.

Farrell’s husband said that during an argument, his wife picked up a six-volt plastic flashlight and threw it at him, striking him in the elbow, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Dena Farrell said she and her husband had been arguing throughout the night “over certain family members that would be attending the funeral.”

The arresting officer wrote in the report that Dena Farrell “did not get along with her deceased mother-in-law and some of her husband’s family members and that she had become agitated with her husband.”

She was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
