Fugitive jailed after woman attacked twice and left on train tracks

Reuben Donnell Lewis Jr.

A 30-year-old Anthony man was apprehended Monday – the day after he allegedly battered a woman for the second time in a week and abandoned her on a set of railroad tracks.

Reuben Donnell Lewis Jr., of 86th Lane, was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. Monday and charged with two counts of battery/dating violence.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called around 8:30 p.m. Sunday to another home on 86th Lane, where they were met by the victim who told them Lewis had punched her in the face during an altercation, causing her to lose consciousness. The victim said Lewis then dragged her to the railroad tracks, where he left her and fled. She couldn’t recall if she was struck more than once, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said the argument started because she was spending time with another man, and because law enforcement was responding to a call in the neighborhood.

The victim suffered significant injuries to her nose and face but refused to be taken to the hospital against the recommendation of the medics, who told deputies the victim’s nose appeared to be broken, the report says.

The previous incident on Dec. 9 started when Lewis confiscated the victim’s cell phone during an argument at his residence. Later that evening, the victim returned and snatched the phone out of his hands and began walking back to her residence. Lewis followed her and slapped her with the back of his hand before leaving. An eyewitness said he saw Lewis strike her, the report says.
The victim returned a short time later because Lewis had changed the password and locked her out of the phone. Lewis became angry when she asked for the password and grabbed her the throat with one hand, picked her up off the ground, dragged her through the house with only her feet dragging on the ground and threw her out, the report says, adding that the victim said Lewis followed her down the driveway and said he would kill her and destroy her.

A deputy reported seeing a large red mark and four scratch marks on the left side of the victim’s neck. He did not see any marks on her face. The deputy went to Lewis’s residence to find him but he wasn’t there. A probable cause affidavit was issued and Lewis remained a fugitive until being arrested Monday.

Lewis is being held in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 bond and is due to appear in Marion County Court Jan. 22 on one charge and Feb. 12 on the other.
