Ocala man hit with charge for calling alleged domestic violence victim from jail

Robert Griffin

An Ocala man who already was behind bars was arrested last week and charged with violating conditions of a pre-trial release after speaking with the victim of an alleged domestic violence incident.

Robert Griffin, 32, was in the Marion County Jail on charges of burglary with assault or domestic battery, larceny/grand theft of a dwelling, domestic battery, giving fraudulent identification to a law enforcement officer and possession of MDMA.

After his arrest, Griffin was ordered to have no contact – directly or indirectly – with the alleged victim of the domestic battery. That included no contact through third parties by mail, telephone, email, social media, texting, electronically, or any other manner, a sheriff’s office report states.

One of the conditions of the order says that while Griffin is still incarcerated at the jail, he can’t have any contact with the alleged victim by any means, including phone calls, video calls or video visits, a sheriff’s office report states.

Authorities say Griffin violated that condition last Thursday when he called the woman and left her a voicemail asking her to visit him at the jail. That prompted the additional charge, which will be among the six Griffin answers to in Marion County Court on Feb. 19 at 9 a.m.
