Unwelcome party guest jailed after melee leaves woman bleeding and brother with broken leg

Christopher Justin Hogan

An Ocala man was arrested earlier this week after an attack left a woman with a bloody nose and her brother with a broken leg.

Christopher Justin Hogan, 31, who lives on Redwood Run, was charged with felony battery and domestic battery by strangulation after the altercation, which happened Sunday at a residence on Redwood Rack Trail.

Interviewed by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy at West Marion Hospital, the male victim said he was at a small get-together at his mother’s home when his sister showed up with Hogan. The victim said Hogan was very intoxicated and became verbally abusive toward him, his sister and his mother.

The victim said when he asked Hogan to leave the party, Hogan started advancing towards him and his sister tried to stop him. He said Hogan punched her in the face, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into him, causing all three of them to fall to the ground with all their weight on his leg. The victim said he felt his leg snap, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Hogan then started choking him to the point where he began to lose consciousness. The deputy observed the victim had a full leg cast on his left leg and had dark purple bruising around his neck. The injuries were consistent with his account of the incident. A nurse at the hospital confirmed the victim’s leg was broken in two places, according to the report.

The mother of the victims told the deputy that Hogan had both victims on the ground and was choking them to the point where they were both about to pass out from strangulation. She said she had to use force to pull Hogan off them, according to the report.

The female victim’s account was identical to her brother’s and her mother’s. She said she told Hogan to leave and he punched her in the nose, causing her to bleed profusely. She said Hogan grabbed her by the neck and pushed her into her brother, causing them all to fall to the ground. She said she couldn’t remember whether she was choked or not because it all happened so fast, but she heard her brother yelling that his leg was broken. The female victim had no visible injuries, according to the report.

Hogan was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on $10,000 bond. His next appearance in Marion County Court is set for April 30.
