Funny-money-passing men flee Ocala grocery store after clerk rejects fake $100 bill

Two men who passed off counterfeit money at an Ocala grocery store got away Tuesday after a third attempt at a gas pump failed.

A manager at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, located at 7855 SW Hwy. 200, called a Marion County sheriff’s deputy for help after discovering two counterfeit $100 bills in different cash registers. The manager reported that two black males had given the cashiers the money and one had attempted to use a third bill while purchasing gasoline, a sheriff’s office report states.

The manager said that the gas cashier can be seen on surveillance footage denying the $100 bill after realizing it was suspect. She then notified the customer service manager and that’s when they discovered the other counterfeit bills in the registers, the report says.

The manager said one of the men had dreadlocks and was wearing a red shirt, while the other one was bald, had a jawline beard and was wearing a short-sleeve flannel shirt.

The manager provided the deputy with photographs of the men and the vehicle they were driving. The deputy took those, the counterfeit $100 bills and the footage of the transactions and submitted then into evidence at the sheriff’s Southwest District Office, the report says.
