Ocala man booted from motel jailed after failing to register as sex offender

Rodolpho Ramon Lastra-Milanes

An Ocala man is behind bars in the Marion County Jail after failing to register as a sex offender.

Rodolpho Ramon Lastra-Milanes, 46, who lists an address of 2901 NE 16th Ave., was arrested Tuesday at 4 p.m. He was convicted of sexual battery in June 1997 in Miami-Dade County and is required to register as a sex offender in Florida, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.

Lastra-Milanes is required to register four times a year, in February, May, August and November. He registered with the sheriff’s office on Feb. 8 and has completed a total of 30 Florida Department of Law Enforcement sexual offender registration forms that spell out the requirements he must follow, the report says.

Lastra-Milanes reported to the sheriff’s office’s Sexual Offender and Predator Unit on Tuesday to file a late registration form. He said he knew he was scheduled to register in May but failed to do so after being evicted from a motel on May 31. And he added that he planned to wait until he found a place to live and was then going to fill out the paperwork with his new address, the report says.

Lastra-Milanes was convicted in November 2009, June 2010 and April 2017 of failure to comply with sexual offender requirements in Marion County. He also was out bond in a pending case from July 2018 for failing to comply with sexual offender requirements.

Lastra-Milanes was charged with failing to register as required and was being held with no bond. He is due in court July 9 at 9 a.m.
