41-year-old Ocala man charged with battering 86-year-old woman

George Benjamin Workman

A 41-year-old Ocala man was arrested early Tuesday after being accused of battering an 86-year-old woman in a domestic dispute.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that George Benjamin Workman, of NE 23rd Avenue, was being aggressive. She said she was in her bedroom when she heard Workman being loud. The victim said she went into the kitchen, where Workman became aggressive towards her and shoved her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she went to the laundry room and was in the doorway when Workman shoved her before grabbing her right arm before twisting it behind her back so she couldn’t move. She said he let go of the arm after some time. A witness corroborated the victim’s account of the incident, the report said.

After being read his Miranda rights, Workman refused to cooperate. He was charged with domestic battery on a person 65 years of age or older and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released Wednesday night on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 9.
