Homeless man behind bars after being nabbed at Belleview car wash on outstanding warrant

A homeless man found himself behind bars Thursday after a Belleview Police sergeant responding to a possible burglary in progress discovered that he had an outstanding warrant.

Chris Martin Cervantes, 29, was arrested Thursday at Mike’s Car Wash at 4845 SE 110th St. in Belleview on an outstanding warrant for larceny/grand theft.

The officer was called to Mike’s Car Wash at 4845 SE 110th St. in Belleview and when he arrived, he made contact with 29-year-old Chris Martin Cervantez, who said the vacuum stations were already opened when he arrived.

Video surveillance footage provided by the owner of the car wash confirmed Cervantez’s claim, but the sergeant then discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for grand theft out of Marion County. Cervantez also was issued a trespass warning and told by the owner not to return to the car wash, a sheriff’s office report states.

Cervantez was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with larceny/grand theft. He was being held on $5,000 bond and is due in court Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.

Cervantez is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail seven times since May 2008. During those arrests he’s faced multiple charges related to battery and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
