An Ocala man was jailed early Monday morning after a nasty altercation with his bleeding girlfriend.

The victim told Ocala Police officers that she was watching television when 44-year-old Christopher J. Vetter, who is originally from New Jersey, threw a glass into a sink and broke it. She said she went toward Vetter to ask him why he broke the glass and he threw another one into the sink, which “shattered everywhere” and cut her hand while she was blocking the shards from hitting her face, a police report states, noting that officers saw blood on the kitchen floor.

The victim said Vetter walked to the garage door and then came back and choked her. She claimed Vetter used both hands around her neck and her airway was blocked, the report says.

The victim said Vetter then got a cigarette out of a nearby room and she told him she was going to call police for help. She said Vetter told her she’d better not call law enforcement, then went onto the porch. She said she locked him out of the residence and then called 911, the report says.

At that point, Vetter started hitting a back window while demanding to be let into the residence. EMS arrived on scene and treated the victim’s bleeding hand. And officers took photographs of bruises on the victim’s neck and shoulder.

The victim also told officers about another violent incident on Oct. 21 when Vetter allegedly came up from behind her, grabbed her face and twisted her neck. She said Vetter continued to grab her face and choke her and the physical and verbal fighting continued for three hours, the report says.

The woman claimed that while she was going upstairs, Vetter grabbed her and shoved her against a wall, causing her collarbone to break and her shoulder to dislocate. She said Vetter then became frightened, called family members and told her to go the emergency room, which she did not do, the report says.

Instead, the victim said, she took Tylenol and went to sleep. The next morning, she visited a Veterans Affairs clinic and was told her collarbone was fractured, the report says.

Officers received another call from the victim shortly after leaving her residence. She said Vetter was back and was knocking on her back door and asking to come inside. She said she refused to let him in and ran upstairs to call for help.

Officers arrived a short time later and spotted Vetter on the back porch. He was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. After initially refusing to speak to officers, he changed his mind and said he accidentally broke the glass. He claimed the victim threw the other glass into the kitchen and cut herself. And he said he tried to help the victim and never assaulted her, the report says, adding that Vetter showed officers scratches on his neck but never explained how they occurred.

Vetter was charged with aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery by strangulation. He was being held on $15,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.
