Ocala man allegedly smashes car window in fit over lost money

Troyrelle Dacosta Bell

An Ocala man gave a false name to police as he was being arrested for allegedly throwing a heavy metal object through the back window of a vehicle during an argument over money.

Troyrelle Dacosta Bell, 34, of 1732 NW 1st St., was charged Nov. 19 with throwing a missile into an occupied vehicle, possession of MDMA, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, and providing a false name to law enforcement.

An Ocala Police officer was waved down in the 1600 block of West Silver Springs Boulevard by a woman who said an unknown black male – later identified as Bell – threw an object through the back window of her vehicle, smashing it. The woman said the culprit was in a gray Chevrolet sedan and provided a tag number, according to the OPD report.

Another officer saw the vehicle traveling southbound on Martin Luther King Avenue. While approaching the vehicle at the intersection of MLK and State Road 200, the officer saw the vehicle fail to stop completely at a traffic control device before turning westbound on S.R. 200. The officer then conducted a traffic stop, the report said.

As the officer spoke with Bell, who was the passenger, he smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Bell got out of the car and gave the officer permission to search his pockets. The officer found a small green leafy bud in Bell’s right pocket. A search of the vehicle turned up a clear plastic bag that contained green leafy substance, a powder-like substance, and a tablet-like substance. The green leafy substances tested positive for marijuana, the powder-like substance tested positive for heroin, and the tablet-like substance tested positive for MDMA, according to the report.

At first, Bell stated his name as Johntrelle Bell. A search of the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) revealed his first name as Troyrelle. After learning Bell’s correct name, the officer learned he had two active warrants for battery, the report said.

Back at the scene of the incident, the victim said Bell gave her money to purchase ammunition at Walmart, but she lost the money. She said when she told Bell that she lost the money, he became angry and started to leave the location. The victim said Bell then threw a heavy metal object towards the back windshield of the vehicle, causing it to shatter, according to the report.

The victim identified Bell as the person who threw the object. Bell was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held without bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 23.
