A Sanford man with a prior felony conviction is in jail after being caught in Umatilla with a weapon and ammunition in a stolen truck.
Corey Alan Mast, 28, was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon. Mast was convicted in Seminole County in September 2012 for dealing in stolen property.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responding to a domestic disturbance at a residence on SE Highway 42 saw Mast get out of a white 2006 Ford F350 work truck and head towards the residence. Mast was not involved in the disturbance, but a vehicle identification number search of the truck confirmed it was reported stolen in Apopka, according to the sheriff’s office report.
Mast told the deputy he borrowed the truck from a friend in Sanford. He said he didn’t know the truck was stolen and there was a possible stolen firearm under the driver’s seat. A computer check of the firearm showed it was not stolen, the report said.
There was a green box tied into the bed of the truck. Mast said the box belonged to him and that the firearm inside the box was his. There was also a black cloth that contained several rounds of ammunition, according to the report.
Mast was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $12,000. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on April 7.
