Leesburg woman nabbed in Umatilla for suspended license and phony tag

Ashley Joy Shustock

A Leesburg woman was arrested in Umatilla recently for driving with a suspended license and having a phony license tag.

At about 4:20 a.m. on April 16, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a gold Chrysler Sebring traveling westbound around in the 19500 block of State Road 42. The vehicle pulled off the road and parked next to several U-Haul trucks near Nelson’s Fish Camp, 19400 S.R. 42, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The vehicle then entered the campground and traveled to the east side of the park. After sitting in the roadway for several minutes, the vehicle packed into a parking spot next to a mobile home and the vehicle lights were turned off, the report said.

Due to the suspicious activities performed by the driver and the time of day, the deputy approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 26-year-old Ashley Joy Shustock, of 205 Round Man St. in Leesburg. Shustock, who was alone in the vehicle, said she was picking up a friend, according to the report.

After dispatch reported the vehicle’s license tag did not come back assigned to a vehicle, the deputy asked for Shustock’s license and she said it was suspended for not paying for insurance. She said she had attached a temporary tag to the vehicle because hers had been seized by law enforcement, the report said.

A records search on the tag that was on the vehicle showed it had expired in May 2019 and wasn’t currently assigned to a vehicle. A search on the vehicle’s identification number showed the tag assigned to the vehicle had expired in April 8, 2019. Shustock was convicted in July 2019 for driving with a tag expired six months or less, according to the report.

Shustock was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released later in the day on $2,000 bond. No court information was available.
