‘Hangry’ Silver Springs man jailed after spat over cheeseburger

Christian De Leon-Hernandez

A Silver Springs man who says he gets mad easily when he is hungry was arrested after he allegedly broke down a door during a fight with a woman over a cheeseburger.

Christian De Leon-Hernandez, 24, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened June 9. The victim waved down a Marion County sheriff’s deputy two days later and reported what happened.

The victim told the deputy that she and DeLeon-Hernandez arrived home around 3:30 p.m. on the day of the incident and she saw he had bought a cheeseburger for himself. She said when she asked De Leon-Hernandez why he didn’t buy her one, too, he became irate and started yelling at her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she retreated to her bedroom and shut the door. She said she could hear De Leon-Hernandez walking towards the bedroom and she knows he has anger problems. The victim said she braced herself against the door to keep De Leon-Hernandez, the report said.

The victim said De Leon-Hernandez kicked the door open, causing her to have a large bruise and red scratch marks on her left forearm. She said she also had a bruise on her left foot. The victim said De Leon-Hernandez entered the room, got into her face and was yelling and screaming at her. She said it appeared De Leon-Hernandez was going to hit her due to his fist being balled up, according to the report.

The victim said she told De Leon-Hernandez she wasn’t scared and to hit her if he wanted to. She said he left the room ad fixed the broken door later that night. The victim said she didn’t report the incident right away due to being afraid of De Leon-Hernandez. She said is unable to leave the house due to having to take care of an older man who also lives there, the report said.

The deputy observed large black and blue bruises and red scratch marks on the victim’s forearm, which was consistent with her statement, according to the report.

After being read his Miranda warning, De Leon-Hernandez said he gets mad easily when he is hungry. He said the victim was yelling at him for not getting her a cheeseburger. De Leon-Hernandez said he only wanted to talk to the victim when she shut the door and wouldn’t let him in the room. He said kicked open the door in order to speak to the victim and he didn’t realize he injured her, the report said.

De Leon-Hernandez was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was still being held Monday on $1,000 bond. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on July 15.
