Speeding Ocala man had suspended license and active warrant

Harold Leroy Hendershot

An Ocala man stopped for speeding last week was charged with driving with a suspended license (second offense) and having an active warrant.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a gold Toyota Camry traveling at a high speed westbound in the 3600 block of Highway 484. Radar showed the vehicle was traveling 74 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The driver – Harold Leroy Hendershot, 37, of 13 Hemlock Trail – told the deputy his license has been suspended for several years. He said he was just trying to get gas before the vehicle ran out of fuel. Asked if he knew how fast he was going, Hendershot said he wasn’t paying attention, the report said.

A search of the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) showed Hendershot’s license was suspended in July 2012 and numerous other times since then, and he had an active warrant for failure to appear out of Pasco County. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $200 bond. Hendershot will appear in Marion County Court on July 12.
