Ocala man nabbed after Marion sheriff highlights case on Facebook segment

Jason Anthony Cangelosi

An Ocala man who was featured on the Marion County Sheriff’s Facebook page in a segment titled “Wanted by Woods Wednesday” was jailed the following day.

Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods asked residents on Wednesday to be on the lookout for 48-year-old Jason Anthony Cangelosi. He said Cangelosi had recently gone to the Freedom Library and called children racial slurs.

Woods said the children told their father and he confronted Cangelosi, who then rammed his car into the man, “sending him in the air,” Woods said.

“We need to get this inhumane individual off the streets of my county,” Woods said during the segment.

Residents were asked to contact the sheriff’s office or Crime Stoppers of Marion County if they had any information about Cangelosi or his whereabouts. The following day, he was in custody at the Marion County Jail.

Cangelosi was charged with aggravated battery on a person using a deadly weapon and driving with license suspended or revoked (third of subsequent offense). He was released Thursday night on $20,000 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
