Ocala man nabbed on DUI charge after failing field sobriety exercises

Edward Kent Athey

An Ocala man was arrested recently after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy saw him driving erratically and suspected he was under the influence.

The deputy stopped a black Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling north in the 3500 block of S. Pine Avenue. He made contact with the vehicle’s driver, 55-year-old Edward Kent Athey, who struggled through field sobriety exercises.

Athey was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (third violation in more than 10 years). He was released on $5,000 bond and is due in court Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
