Ocklawaha man charged with sexually battering girl under 12

Kurtis Logan Hunt

A 19-year-old Ocklawaha man is accused of committing sexual battery on a girl who is 12 years old or younger.

Kurtis Logan Hunt is being held in the Marion County Jail on $50,000 bond after his arrest Wednesday. The victim’s age was redacted from the report, but she told investigators Hunt had abused her four or five times since she was 4 years old, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report.

On Nov. 21, a sheriff’s deputy responded to the incident location and spoke with a child protective investigator from the Florida Department of Children and Families about accusations that the victim had been forced by Hunt to masturbate him. The victim had told the investigator she had fallen asleep in Hunt’s room on Nov. 16 and woke up with Hunt starting to abuse her, the report said.

On Wednesday, the victim was interviewed by a case manager at Kimberly’s Center for Child Protection, where she provided a detailed, graphic account of the incident. She said this was the fourth or fifth time something had happened with Hunt. The victim said the first time was when she was 4 years old. She said she doesn’t recall exactly what happened, but they had been really close when she was younger, according to the report.

The victim said Hunt would have her touch him or he would touch her inappropriately. She said the last time it happened was several years ago, when she was 7 or 8 years old, when she woke up with Hunt’s penis in her face and him trying to put it in her mouth. The victim said her mother called the police, but later she was told by her mother to lie and tell everyone it was a dream. The deputy later identified the case, which had been closed by juvenile referral or Hunt, the report said.

The deputy spoke with the victim’s mother, who initially said she didn’t believe the allegations and feels the victim uses this for manipulation. The victim’s mother then started talking about how the previous case had been recanted until the deputy asked her who told the victim to say the allegations may have been a dream. The mother then reversed her statements and said Hunt’s father had begun questioning the child about the prior investigation and was convincing her she had dreamed it up to keep his son out of trouble, according to the report.

During a post-Miranda interview, Hunt made simple statements that the incident never happened. However, he provided non-verbal body language clues that he did not want to talk about details of the allegations. The deputy explained there appeared to be additional information he was failing to provide, and Hunt looked like he was going to cry and seemed to be almost holding his breath when he was confronted about the allegations being true, the report said.

Hunt will appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 5, 2021.
