52-year-old Ocala man jailed after caught driving without license

Calvin Conage

An Ocala man found himself behind bars Thursday night after he was spotted driving a vehicle with an expired license tag.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped a tan Pontiac sedan in the parking lot of the Circle K at 5201 S. Pine Avenue after observing that the vehicle’s tag had expired in November 2020. The driver, 52-year-old Calvin Conage, gave the deputy a Florida identification card and said he didn’t have a license, a sheriff’s office report states.

A computer check showed that Conage’s license was revoked on May 2, 2016 for 60 months and he was deemed a habitual offender. It showed that Conage’s license was canceled indefinitely on Dec. 17, 2019 and suspended indefinitely on July 8, 2020 for failure to pay financial obligations. Records also showed that Conage was convicted of robbery in Volusia County on Oct. 14, 1988, the report says.

Conage, who lives at 2620 S.E. 67th St., No. 6 in Ocala, was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving with license suspended or revoked (habitual). He was released Thursday night on $5,000 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
