An Ocala woman who gave Marion County sheriff’s deputies a false name found herself behind bars a short time later.
Deputies responded recently to a residence in the 6000 block of N.W. 61st Street in Ocala and spoke with a suspect who identified herself as Kerry Kaulker. The victim of the criminal mischief told deputies she didn’t wish to press charges, a sheriff’s office report states.
During the course of the investigation, the suspect met the criteria for a Baker Act, so deputies took her into custody and transported her to The Centers in Ocala. The following day, deputies discovered that the woman, 34-year-old Erica Renee Cooper, had given them a false name. She was wanted on a warrant out of Sumter County and said she lied about her name because she didn’t want to go to jail, the report says.
A deputy responded to The Centers and a staff member provided Cooper’s identification card that had been found in her belongings. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with giving false identification to a law enforcement officer. She was being held on $500 bond and is due in court Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge, jail records show.
