Motorist trauma-alerted to local hospital and 3 others injured in Marion County crash

A trapped motorist was declared a trauma alert and three others also were injured in a two-vehicle collision late Tuesday afternoon.

Marion County firefighters work to remove an injured motorist from his mangled sedan after a crash Tuesday on E. Silver Springs Boulevard.

Units from Marion County Fire Rescue were dispatched at 5:09 p.m. to a crash in the 5400 block of E. Silver Springs Blvd. involving a sedan and an SUV. Firefighters were told that the driver of the sedan was trapped inside his vehicle.

Engine 28 arrived at 5:15 p.m. and reported a total of four victims from the crash. Engine 28’s lieutenant established command and requested additional transport units, a report states.

Tuesday’s crash on E. Silver Springs Boulevard left four motorists injured, with one being entrapped in his vehicle and declared a trauma alert.

Additional firefighters from Anthony Engine #1 and Friendship Fire Station Truck Company #21 arrived and quickly began extrication of the patient. A short time later, he was successfully removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital, the report says.

Three other patients also were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, according to the report.
