A motorist was injured late Friday night in a single-vehicle crash in Ocala.
Multiple crews from Ocala Fire Rescue responded at 10:53 p.m. to reports of a vehicle crash on S.E. Third Avenue at the Magnolia Extension. Firefighters arrived a short time later to find an upside-down SUV that appeared to have rolled over multiple times. The heavily damaged SUV had come to rest near a power pole that was sparking with fire, a report states.
Firefighters quickly secured the crash scene for electrical hazards and stabilized the vehicle before beginning extrication of the injured driver. They used a glass-cutting saw to remove the SUV’s front windshield and gain access to the driver, who was then transported to a local hospital.
No other injuries were reported. Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engine 3, Rescue 3, Tower 1, a battalion chief and a safety officer responded to the crash, as did firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue, officers from the Ocala Police Department and a crew from Ocala Electric Utility.
