Pedestrian struck, killed by CSX train in southeast Ocala

Update from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office: The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Troy Michael Summerfield.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a CSX train in Southeast Ocala on Thursday night.

At around 11:15 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident involving a pedestrian and a train that occurred along the railroad tracks between SE 52nd Street and SE 62nd Street.

Upon arrival, the deputies discovered an individual who was deceased.

The accident caused a temporary road closure on SE 52nd Street until the train was moved. The road has since reopened.

The MCSO Major Crimes Unit and CSX both arrived on scene and the accident is currently under investigation.

The name of the victim was not released.
